Testing of noise-canceling headphones

GUIDE: Here are the top four noise-canceling headphones right now.

Active noise cancellation in headphones is a great feature, although it is mainly used in the home office during these coronation times and not on airplanes.

Previously, Bose was the clear market leader in this field, but in recent years most manufacturers with respect for themselves have thrown over the product category. And some with very good results.

New models are launched periodically, but the gap between the top and bottom is still wide.

Below you can see the four best noise-canceling headphones right now, where we find two from Danish manufacturers.

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H9 (3rd Generation)

Choose these if: You think that great sound quality in everyday life is more important than having the most powerful noise cancellation – and design is important.

It’s good: Very good sound, noise reduction, nicely designed, sumptuous materials, easy touch control, comfortable wearing and good battery life.

It could be better: the sound is best without noise cancellation, not as good noise reduction as the best, cannot be folded, problems with two connections at the same time and animals.

Sony WH-1000XM3

Choose these if: You think noise reduction is more important than most. And enjoy a lot of bass and fun.

That’s great: Great noise reduction that also removes high-frequency sound, comfortable ear pads and headbands, interesting playing style, long battery life, fast charging via USB-C and good case.

It could be better: Touch-sensitive zones can be annoying, a little too bassy without the need to equalize, can’t connect to two audio sources at the same time, and poor call quality in noisy environments.

Jabra Elite 85h

Choose these if: You need headphones that work for phone calls and want a slightly more neutral sound than Sony offers – or just don’t like touch devices.

It’s good: Neutral, full, detailed and airy sound, very good noise reduction, great conversation quality even in noisy environments, comfortable wearing and long battery life.

It could be better: Not as extreme noise reduction as Sony, no noise level adjustment (on / off only), no on / off button can be annoying, only medium range and struggling to connect two devices at the same time.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700

Choose these if: You think the combination of comfort, noise reduction and sometimes sound quality is the most important.

That’s good: The market’s best noise reduction, extremely comfortable to wear, much better sound than its predecessor, long battery life, can be connected to two devices at the same time and good touch control.

It could be better: Not collapsible, doesn’t feel as solid as its predecessor and aircraft adapter no longer included.
